Camp
Elkanah began back in 1930 as a lumber company camp. The Mt. Emily
Lumber company built the camp at the present site of Camp
Elkanah to provide a base of operations for their logging in
the area. A railroad line was put through the camp and houses
were built for the families that worked for the Company. Some
of the original box cars are still being used today as bunk houses.
The camp was donated to the Blue Mountain Conservative Baptist
Association in the fall of 1956 by the Valsetz Lumber Company.
There are a total of fifteen camper cabins on the campus. Each
cabin has a minimum of 11 beds while some have as many as 16
beds. There are a total of 200 camper beds. Beds are bunk type
for campers and one single bed for the counselor. Each bed has
a five inch thick foam mattress with skid-proof and waterproof
covering. Camp Elkanah does not provide any other bedding. Wood
fire stoves heat all but three cabins that use propane and electricity.
There are a total of seven staff cabins on the campus. There are
a total of 32 single staff beds with a foam mattress. Staff cabins
have propane heat with the exception of the nurse's cabin and the
adjoining cabin, which are heated by electricity.
Requests for camp dates may be made at anytime. Dates are subject
to availability and to the following priority guidlines. First
priority is given to BMCBA churches(the owners of the campground).
Second priority is given to other churches and or groups who have
established a history of regular use with Camp Elkanah.
